Franco Polti was born in a small village in Southern Italy. At the age of 15, he moved to Como, where his father was born, and attended the Professional Technical School, then started working as a representative of professional steam ironers for laundries.
In 1974 he got married to Teresa Napoli, a lucky meeting with an equally bright woman who has been standing by his side from the very beginning and gave her contribution so that the Polti's story would become a successful story.

In 1978, after a conversation to a customer Franco Polti had a bright intuition: why not offering all women the quality of a professional iron for home use? This is how the idea of building a "Vaporella" was born; Vaporella was the first professional iron for domestic use.
|
In order to produce Vaporella, Franco Polti opened a small artisan family company and worked in a cellar underneath his house, he employed four, five people. He promoted his product through the brand new private networks and the local exhibitions. Success arrived immediately and a year later Vaporella conquered the consumers all over the world.
In 1984, Franco Polti gave birth to Polti Spa. and its first plant in Olgiate Comasco.
In 1998 a new ambitious project on one of the components of his products was realized: the cap of the steam generator. The famous “safety cap” was born and patented by Polti worldwide: the cap will not open if inside the boiler there is even the smallest quantity of steam. The safety cap is such an original and important patent that it has been forged by the competitors.

After the launch and success of Vaporella, Polti did not stop. In 1992 he had another winning idea: he created Vaporetto, the first and only environmentally friendly household appliance which cleans the whole house simply with the power of steam at 120°C. It soon turned out to be another lucky intuition.
|
The conquest of the European market started with Vaporetto, at first in France, then Spain, Belgium, Austria, Germany, England till 1993 when Polti decided to land in Brazil. “Polti do Brazil” was funded and in only three years Vaporetto became a longed and desired product for a lot of families, thereafter Polti became undisputed leader for small household appliances. In 1996 the growth and the development of the Brazilian market led Polti to build a plant in Araras which was double-sized in the following year.
In the meantime, in 1994, the new plant in Bulgarograsso was inaugurated and is presently the headquarter of the group where there are also the most modern production and assembly lines, the Project Centre, the Technical Direction, commercial offices and a new completely automatized warehouse. |

1999 was a year reach in innovations: Polti launched a new and revolutionary vacuum cleaner: "Lecologico", the exclusive vacuum cleaner with water filter which does away with paper bags and which, thanks to an eight-stage filtering system and the HEPA filter, traps dirt, pollen and dust mites and the outlet air of the vacuum cleaner is clean and purified.

 |

In 2000, after having acquired a deep knowledge in steam cleaning and in the vacuuming technology with water filter, Franco Polti launched "Vaporetto Lecoaspira", which combines the benefits of steam cleaning to the benefits of a quality vacuuming with water filter in just a single appliance.

The creative energy of Franco Polti never stops : in 2006, after having introduced a wide range of steam cleaning appliances intended for professional use, he launched the surfaces sanitiser "Polti Sani System", a wordwide Polti patent. Polti Sani System was developed in cooperation with Pavia University to solve the problem of biological contamination and reduce it to the lowest possible safety levels. |
Today, Polti is the main manufacturer of steam household appliances in Europe, with an increasing trend.
Polti is among the few companies which produce entirely on the national territory so is able to check directly each phase of production.
Polti is one of the few companies that still produce most of its products in Italy; this means the company is able to control the entire production process and to guarantee high quality standards.
